Aptus is a healthcare preparation app that uses AI to generate relevant questions you might be asked during medical appointments. This policy explains what data we collect, how we protect your sensitive health information, and your rights. Your health privacy is our top priority.
Symptom Descriptions and Medical Context: When you describe your symptoms or medical situation, that text is sent to OpenAI's API for processing to generate relevant questions. We do not store this information on our servers. OpenAI processes it according to their privacy policy and API data usage terms, which prohibit using API data to train models.
Authentication Data: If you create an account, Firebase Authentication stores your email address and authentication credentials. This is used solely for account management and login.
Session History: Your previous sessions (symptom descriptions and generated questions) may be stored locally on your device to allow you to review past appointments. This data remains on your device unless you enable iCloud sync.
Usage Analytics: We collect minimal anonymous usage data to improve the app (e.g., number of sessions created, feature usage). This data cannot be linked back to you personally or your medical information.
We do not store, sell, or share your medical information. Your symptom descriptions are processed ephemerally by OpenAI and are not retained by us or used for any purpose other than generating your appointment questions.
This app is not a medical device: Aptus is a preparation tool, not a diagnostic tool. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult with qualified healthcare professionals for medical concerns.
OpenAI: Your symptom descriptions are processed by OpenAI's GPT models to generate relevant medical appointment questions. OpenAI's API terms prohibit them from using API data to train their models. Review OpenAI's privacy policy at openai.com/privacy.
Firebase (Google): We use Firebase Authentication for account management and Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage statistics. Review Google's privacy policy at firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Apple Services: The app uses StoreKit for in-app purchases and subscriptions, and optionally iCloud for syncing your session history across your devices. Apple processes this information according to their privacy policy.
Local Storage: Your session history and app preferences are stored locally on your device using secure iOS storage mechanisms. This data is encrypted by iOS when you have a passcode enabled.
Cloud Storage: Only your email address and authentication tokens are stored in Firebase's secure cloud infrastructure. If you enable iCloud sync, your session history is stored in your private iCloud account.
Security Measures: All data transmission uses industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS). We implement secure authentication practices and regularly update our security protocols. Given the sensitive nature of health data, we take extra precautions to minimize data collection and storage.
HIPAA Compliance: Aptus is not a HIPAA-covered entity as we do not store or transmit protected health information (PHI) in a way that would require HIPAA compliance. However, we follow privacy best practices aligned with HIPAA principles.
Aptus is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
If you are using Aptus from outside the United States, please note that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where our servers and third-party service providers are located.
We do not display ads. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers. Your health information is never monetized.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated date. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or via email.
