Symptex is a health tracking and symptom management app designed to help you monitor your wellbeing and generate comprehensive health reports. This policy explains our commitment to protecting your sensitive health data. Your privacy and the security of your medical information are our highest priorities.
Health and Symptom Data: All symptoms, health metrics, notes, and medical information you enter are stored locally on your device using SwiftData, Apple's secure data persistence framework. This data never leaves your device.
HealthKit Data (Optional): If you grant permission, Symptex can read health data from Apple Health (HealthKit) to enhance your health tracking. This data is accessed locally on your device and is never transmitted to any server.
PDF Reports: When you generate PDF health reports, those reports are created locally on your device. They are not uploaded to any server unless you explicitly choose to share them through iOS sharing features.
No Account Required: Symptex does not require account creation. There is no email, username, or password to manage.
Your health data never leaves your device. This is not just a policy—it's a fundamental design principle. Symptex operates entirely offline (except for optional StoreKit purchases). Your medical information remains private, secure, and under your complete control.

Local Storage: All health data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. This data is encrypted using iOS's built-in device encryption when you have a passcode enabled.
HealthKit Security: HealthKit data is managed by iOS and is encrypted. Symptex accesses only the data types you explicitly authorize.
iCloud Sync (Optional): If you enable iCloud for Symptex in iOS Settings, your symptom data syncs securely via your private iCloud account. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
No Cloud Servers: We do not operate any cloud servers or databases that store your health information.
PDF Security: Generated PDF reports are stored locally. Be cautious when sharing these reports, as they contain your private health information.
Symptex is not a HIPAA-covered entity as we do not store or transmit protected health information (PHI) in a way that would require HIPAA compliance. However, we follow privacy best practices aligned with HIPAA principles, including:
HealthKit (Optional): Required only if you want to import health data from Apple Health. You can deny this permission and still use all core features. You control which specific data types Symptex can read through iOS Settings.
No Other Permissions: Symptex does not request access to your camera, location, contacts, microphone, or other device features.
Symptex is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It is a personal health tracking tool. Always consult with qualified healthcare professionals for medical concerns. Do not use Symptex to replace professional medical advice or to make medical decisions.
Emergency Situations: Do not use Symptex for medical emergencies. Call emergency services immediately if you are experiencing a medical emergency.
Symptex is intended for users age 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since all data stays on the device, there are minimal privacy concerns. Parents should supervise children's use of health tracking apps.
Manual Sharing Only: You can choose to export PDF reports or share symptom data using iOS's built-in sharing features (Mail, Messages, AirDrop, etc.). When you share, you control what is shared and with whom. We strongly recommend only sharing health data with trusted healthcare providers.
Be Cautious: PDF reports contain your private health information. Only share them with trusted individuals and through secure channels.
Symptex works the same everywhere in the world. Since all data stays on your device, there are no international data transfer issues.
We do not display ads. We do not track you. We do not sell your health data under any circumstances.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with an updated date. Given Symptex's privacy-first design (no data collection), significant changes to our core privacy model are unlikely.
We are considering open-sourcing Symptex to provide full transparency about how your health data is handled. Contact us if you're interested in reviewing the code.
