Who we are

Desta is a boating weather app operated by Dinz ("we", "us"). For EU data-protection purposes, Dinz is the data controller. Desta is designed to work without an account — we do not ask for your name, email, or a login.

What we collect

• Location (precise, while using the app). With your permission, we use your device location to show weather, wind, waves, and tides for where you are. Your coordinates are sent to our own backend and to our weather data providers to retrieve a forecast for that point, and are used with Apple's geocoder to display a nearby place name. We do not track your location in the background and do not build a location history on our servers.
• Diagnostics / crash data. We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to record crashes and app stability data — device model, operating-system version, app version, crash logs, and a Crashlytics installation identifier. This helps us fix bugs. It is not used to identify you personally or for advertising.
• On-device settings. Your preferences (units, saved spots, last viewed location, boat speed) are stored only on your device and are not sent to us.

We do not collect contacts, photos, health data, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

How we use it

• To provide the core features — current conditions and forecasts for your location and chosen spots.
• To keep the app stable and diagnose crashes.

Legal bases (GDPR): providing the forecasts you request relies on legitimate interest and on the consent you give through the device's location permission, which you can withdraw at any time in iOS Settings. Crash diagnostics rely on our legitimate interest in a stable, secure product.

Who we share it with

We use trusted providers strictly to deliver the service, under their own privacy policies:

• Apple WeatherKit / Apple Maps — weather data and maps.
• Open-Meteo — weather and marine model data, accessed through our backend.
• WorldTides — tide predictions, accessed through our backend.
• Google Firebase (Crashlytics) — crash reporting.
• Railway — hosting for our backend.

Unlike many weather apps, we do not use your data for targeted advertising, do not sell it, and do not share your location with data brokers or ad networks.

Data retention

• Location: our backend caches forecast responses keyed to a coarse grid (~11 km) for a short period (hours) to reduce upstream calls; it is not tied to an account or a persistent identifier and expires automatically. We do not keep a personal location history.
• Crash data: retained by Firebase Crashlytics per Google's defaults (typically up to 90 days).
• On-device settings: remain on your device until you delete the app.

International transfers

Some providers (e.g., Google Firebase) process data outside the EU/EEA, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Depending on your location (GDPR/EEA, UK, California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Croatia, AZOP). Because Desta has no account, most of your data lives on your device — deleting the app removes it — or is anonymous diagnostics. For crash-data requests, contact dinz@dinzzz.com.

Children

Desta is not directed to children and is rated 4+. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all network traffic. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
